Mata Sita is considered an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity. Being the daughter of King Janak, she is also known as Janaki and Janaksuta. As a princess of Mithila, she is famously called Maithili. Mata Sita married Lord Ram, the son of King Dasharath of Ayodhya, who is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. After marriage, Mata Sita had to endure 14 years of exile with Lord Ram. Lord Ram is considered to be the presiding deity of Mata Sita. Chanting the Sita mantra helps in ending all sorrows and brings peace and happiness to the home. Mata Sita’s glory is such that even today, people often take her name before Lord Ram.
In the Ramayana, Ram symbolizes our soul, supreme consciousness, truth, and virtue, while Mata Sita represents the primal energy or Kundalini power. Mata Sita is considered an ideal woman. She resides in the Muladhara or root chakra, which represents the earth element. Chanting the Sita mantra activates the flow of prana (life force) through the Sushumna Nadi, which allows the Kundalini energy to rise. Continuous chanting of the Sita Ram mantra creates subtle friction that activates the Ida and Pingala Nadis, or sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, and the Vagus nerve or Sushumna Nadi starts vibrating. Chanting the Sita Ram mantra helps balance the two hemispheres of the brain.
