Maa Kali Mantra

Maa Kali is the seventh form of Goddess Shakti. According to mythological beliefs, Maa Kali is a fierce form of Maa Parvati and the wife of Lord Shiva. Maa Kali destroys all kinds of evil forces in the universe. She is also known by other names like Kalratri, Bhadrakali, Bhairavi, Rudrani, Chamunda, Chandi, Raudri, and Dhumorna. This form of Goddess is known for destroying evil and ensuring the victory of good over bad. According to religious texts, Maa Kali rewards those who perform good deeds and destroys the wicked. This is why she is also called Mahakali. Maa Kali is considered the most awakened goddess in Hinduism, and she has appeared on Earth in four forms: Dakshina Kali, Shamshan Kali, Maa Kali, and Mahakali. According to the scriptures, devotees who worship Maa Kali with sincere devotion receive her blessings, and she removes their hardships. The chanting of Maa Kali's mantras is most effective when done in the hours after sunset, especially on Amavasya (new moon) days.

The Story of Maa Kali's Form

According to ancient stories, Daruka, a demon who received a boon from Lord Brahma, started torturing the gods and goddesses. When the torture increased, all the gods approached Lord Vishnu for help. Lord Vishnu told them that only a woman could defeat Daruka. So, the gods then went to Lord Shiva for a solution. Upon listening to their prayers, Lord Shiva asked Maa Parvati to resolve the issue. Maa Parvati manifested a part of herself, transforming into Maa Kali. As Lord Shiva recognized Maa Kali within him, he opened his third eye, and Maa Kali appeared. Her mere roar destroyed Daruka and his entire army of demons.

Forms of Maa Kali

In Hinduism, Maa Kali is depicted mainly in two forms, which are worshiped. The Four-Armed Form This is the peaceful form of Maa Kali. After destroying the evil forces, she appears with red eyes (representing anger), disheveled hair, and her tongue sticking out. She wears garments made from the bodies of the demons and wears a garland of skulls around her neck. In her four hands, she holds a sword, a trident, a severed head, and a cup filled with blood.

The Ten-Armed Form (Mahakali) This form of Maa Kali is known as Mahakali. In this form, she has ten arms, ten faces, and three eyes on each face. Each of her hands holds a different object that represents the power of the gods. This symbolizes that Mahakali is responsible for the powers of the gods and has the same supreme nature as Lord Brahma.
