Kalashtami is a significant festival in Hinduism, primarily dedicated to the worship of Lord Bhairav for wealth, success, good health, and obstacle removal. The name Bhairav means "the protector," and he is revered as the fifth incarnation of Lord Shiva. Lord Bhairav has two prominent formsāKaal Bhairav and Batuk Bhairav. According to legend, once when Goddess Parvati took the fierce form of Maa Kali to slay the demon Daruka, her rage became uncontrollable. To pacify her, Lord Shiva took the form of a five-year-old child and called out to her as "Maa." Hearing this, her heart softened, and she returned to her original form as Parvati. The form that Lord Shiva assumed to calm the Goddess is known as "Batuk Bhairav."
Lord Bhairavās child form, Shri Batuk Bhairav, is believed to be the bestower of wealth and prosperity. It is said that on Kalashtami, Lord Bhairav, an incarnation of Lord Shiva, was born, making this day highly auspicious for worshipping Him. According to the scriptures, the Swarnakarshan Bhairav Puja is performed to attract wealth and prosperity, granting eight great siddhis (spiritual attainments). Worshipping this form of Lord Bhairav is believed to bring freedom from debts, financial stability, life security, and protection from adversities.
