Triyuginarayan Temple is a historic and sacred site dedicated to Lord Vishnu, located in the village of Triyuginarayan in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. This ancient pilgrimage site lies on the route connecting Guttuthur to Shri Kedarnath, and its architectural style has influenced the Kedarnath Temple as well. The village holds great religious importance, as mythological beliefs consider Triyuginarayan to be the capital of Himavat, where the divine wedding of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati took place.It is believed that the wedding of Shiva and Parvati was conducted in a grand havan kund here, where sacred fire was lit in all four directions. Gods including Brahma and Vishnu, along with sages, were present at this divine ceremony. Even today, devotees take the sacred ash from this havan kund to their homes as a blessing for a happy married life. The name “Triyuginarayan” comes from the belief that symbols of three yugas are present here, representing the divine connection of Vishnu, Shiva, and Parvati.
The temple premise houses four important kunds: Rudrakund, Vishnu Kund, Brahmakund, and Saraswati Kund. The water of these kunds is considered highly sacred, and it is believed that the gods bathed here during the wedding ceremony. Notably, the water of Saraswati Kund is believed to have originated from Lord Vishnu’s navel, adding to its spiritual importance.
