Located in Uttarakhand, this Rahu temple is one of the rare places where Rahu Dev is worshipped along with Lord Shiva. It is believed that Rahu and Ketu are two parts of the asura Swarbhanu. According to the Puranas, during Samudra Manthan, Swarbhanu deceitfully sat among the devas and consumed amrit. When Lord Vishnu discovered this, he used the Sudarshan Chakra to separate Swarbhanu’s head from his body so he could not become fully immortal. However, having already consumed amrit, he had attained immortality. The lower part of his body became Ketu, while the severed head came to be known as Rahu. It is believed that this very head fell at this location in Pauri, where the Rahu temple was later established.
It is believed that devotees visit this temple to seek relief from various Rahu-related doshas. Especially for relief from Kaal Sarp Dosha, Rahu-Ketu Dosha, and Rahu Mahadasha, special pujas are performed here. Some texts also mention that this temple was established by Adi Shankaracharya. According to another legend, the Pandavas built this temple during their Swargarohini journey. It is said that to protect themselves from Rahu dosha, the Pandavas worshipped Lord Shiva and Rahu Dev at this very place.
