Lord Vishnu, realizing the deception, severed his head from his body. However, due to the nectar's effect, his head became Rahu and his body became Ketu, attaining immortality. It is believed that Rahu symbolizes illusions, obsessions, and negative deeds associated with materialism, while Ketu represents spiritual liberation and karmic influences from past lives. Through this special ritual, the malefic effects of Rahu and Ketu can be pacified.
