🪔 The Story of Pitru Paksha:
There are many stories associated with Pitru Paksha, one of which comes from the Mahabharata era. After Karna ascended to heaven, he received gold and jewels but no food. When he asked Indra the reason, Indra replied that while Karna gave charity throughout his life, he never offered food or Tarpan to his ancestors. Indra then granted him 15 days on Earth to perform Shraadh for his forefathers. These 15 days are observed as Pitru Paksha or Shraadh.
On Shraadh Dashami, devotees have the opportunity to participate in Pitru Puja at Kashi along with the divine Ganga Aarti, which is believed to remove sins.

The Pishach Mochan Kund in Kashi is especially renowned for Pitru Dosh Shanti. References are found in the Garuda Purana and Kashi Khand, where it is said that performing Pind Daan, Tarpan, and Pitru Dosh Nivaran Puja at this Kund fulfills the unfulfilled desires of ancestors, granting them peace and liberation.
The history of Pishach Mochan Kund is ancient. It is said to have existed even before the descent of the Ganga. The Kund is linked to the story of a Brahmin who, due to his deeds, was transformed into a pishach (demon). Under the guidance of Sage Valmiki, he worshipped Kapardeshwar Mahadev and bathed in this Kund, attaining liberation. Since then, the site became known as Pishach Mochan.
Assi Ghat, situated on the banks of the sacred Ganga in Kashi (Varanasi/Benaras), is one of the city’s most important spiritual sites. Pilgrims from India and abroad come here to bathe in the Ganga, believing that it washes away sins and opens the path to liberation.
