Kashi is called the city of Mahadev and it is believed that nothing happens here without the will of Bhairav Baba. The care of the entire city is considered to be in his hands. According to mythology, once a dispute arose between Brahma ji and Vishnu ji as to who is the greatest among the two. During the discussion, when Shiva ji's name came up, Brahma ji's fifth head criticized Shiva ji. This made Shiva ji angry. From that anger, Kaal Bhairav appeared from the radiance of Lord Shiva. Lord Kaal Bhairav separated the fifth head of Brahma ji who criticized Shiva ji, but that head was not separating from his hand. Then Shiva ji said, “You have the defect of killing a Brahmin. There is only one way to be free from this—you roam in the three worlds and where this head of Brahma separates from your hand, there you will get rid of this defect.” While roaming, when Bhairav Baba reached Kashi, Brahma ji's head separated from his hand and he got rid of this defect there. After this, Shiva ji appointed Kaal Bhairav as the Kotwal, i.e., protector of Kashi. It is believed that worshipping Baba Kaal Bhairav seated here removes sorrows, evil eye, troubles, and sufferings of life.

Shri Pitambara Peeth is a famous spiritual complex located in the Datia district of Madhya Pradesh. It is considered a major center for the worship of Maa Bagalamukhi. This Peeth was established in the year 1929 by Brahmalin Pujyapad Rashtraguru Anant Shri Vibhushit Swami ji Maharaj.
