Govardhan Annakut Puja Mathura Special 56 Bhog Arpan, 5600 Tulsi Archana Puja, and Anna Daan For Blessing of Material and Spiritual Prosperity and Liberation from Sins

In Hinduism, the Pratipada Tithi of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Kartik is celebrated as Govardhan Puja, also known as Annakut. The term "Annakut" means "mountain of food." On this day, a variety of dishes—56 types, including sweets, fruits, vegetables, and grains—are prepared and offered to Lord Krishna in the form of a "mountain." According to a popular ritual, it is considered auspicious to offer Lord Krishna his favourite dishes in the form of "Chhappan Bhog," meaning 56 different food items. According to legends, it is believed that to shatter Indra's pride and protect the people of Braj, Lord Krishna lifted the massive Govardhan Mountain on his little finger with his divine power, sheltering thousands of creatures and humans. During this time, Krishna broke Indra's arrogance by worshipping Govardhan Mountain. This is said to be the origin of Govardhan Puja. Additionally, it is believed that Lord Krishna remained without food for seven days. On the eighth day, when the rain stopped, the people of Braj realised that Krishna had not eaten anything for those seven days. They asked Maa Yashoda how she fed her son, to which she replied that she fed Krishna eight times a day. Following this, the people of Gokul prepared 56 different dishes (eight dishes for each day) that Lord Krishna loved. It is believed that since this event, the tradition of offering 56 food items to Lord Krishna began. It is said that offering these 56 dishes quickly pleases young Krishna, fulfilling the wishes of the devotees.

Moreover, Tulsi holds special significance in the worship of Lord Krishna. According to beliefs, without Tulsi, the worship is considered incomplete. In religious traditions, Lord Krishna is regarded as the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu. Just as the worship of Lord Vishnu is deemed incomplete without Tulsi, Tulsi is also very dear to Lord Krishna. Therefore, Tulsi leaves are offered in his worship and food offerings. This is why, on the day of Govardhan Annakut Puja, it will be highly effective to please Lord Krishna with the offering of 56 Bhog along with the worship of 5600 Tulsi leaves. Furthermore, in Hinduism, offering food (Anna Daan) is considered the highest form of Daan. After offering the food to Lord Krishna, it is distributed among devotees and the needy as Prasad. This act is deemed virtuous and provides immense spiritual benefits to the devotee. This is why, on the day of Annakut Puja, a grand ritual involving the offering of 56 Bhog, the worship of 5600 Tulsi leaves, and Anna Daan will be organised at the Shri Giriraj Ji Mukharvind Temple in Govardhan. Participate in this puja organised by Sri Mandir and receive blessings from Lord Krishna for material and spiritual prosperity and liberation from sins.

Lord Shri Krishna, known by names such as Govardhan Nath, Govardhan Dhari, and Giridhar, manifested on the sacred land of Shri Giriraj Govardhan, which has a profound connection with the residents of Braj and the great saint Vallabhacharya. It is said that in the caves adorned with precious jewels in Golok Dham, Shri Govardhan engages in divine pastimes with Shri Thakurji, Shri Swamini ji, and the devotees of Braj. From there, Thakurji ordered Mahaprabhu Vallabhacharya to descend to Earth for the salvation of living beings. In 1466, on the day of Naag Panchami, a resident of Braj witnessed the left arm of Lord Shri Govardhan Nathji on Govardhan Hill. This was the same arm with which Shri Krishna lifted the Govardhan Mountain to protect the residents of Braj from the wrath of Indra. After this, the residents of Braj worshipped the Lord's left arm for 69 years, and a fair (mela) was held every year on Naag Panchami.

In the year 1478, a miraculous event occurred when the cow of Saddu Pandey named Dhoomar shed a stream of milk into a hole on the Govardhan Parvat. Saddu Pandey saw the manifestation of Shri Govardhan Nathji's face there. From that point on, the residents of Braj began to know him by the name Devdaman. Saddu Pandey's wife and daughter would go daily to offer the milk from Dhoomar to the Lord. In 1493, Shri Govardhan Nathji commanded Mahaprabhu Vallabhacharya to manifest his complete form. Mahaprabhu immediately came to Braj and listened to the story of Shri Nathji's manifestation from Saddu Pandey in the village of Anyor. The next day, Mahaprabhu, along with the residents of Braj, went to see Shri Nathji on Giriraj Govardhan. Upon seeing Shri Nathji, Mahaprabhu was deeply moved and embraced the Lord. Shri Nathji told Mahaprabhu, "Build a temple for us here and begin our service in it." Mahaprabhu promptly constructed a small temple and installed the Lord in it. Later, on the day of Akshaya Tritiya in 1519, Shri Nathji was installed in the new temple. Even today, the service of Shri Nathji is performed by the devotees of Vallabhakul, and this place is highly revered in Braj.
