Shri Shaktipeeth Tarapith Temple,Tarapith, West Bengal
Located in West Bengal’s Birbhum district, is the revered Tarapith Temple dedicated to Maa Tara, the second of the 10 Mahavidyas. It is one of the 51 Shaktipeethas, described as being seats of divine feminine power or Shakti. Some stories purport that the divine eyeball of Sati had fallen here. Various parts of Sati's body are said to have fallen all across South Asia during Lord Shiva's Rudra Tandav (devastating dance) following Sati’s self-immolation at Daksha’s yajna where she and her husband were disrespected. The temple is a significant site for the practice of tantric rites too and Sadhak Bamakhyapa is said to have performed his sadhana here.

Maa Kali is regarded as one of the principal deities in Bengal, who symbolises great power. Her devotees offer their prayers to her for prevention of disasters and protection from hazards and accidents.
