According to mythology, once a dispute arose between Brahma Ji and Vishnu Ji about who was supreme. During the discussion, when Lord Shiva’s name was mentioned, Brahma Ji’s fifth head criticized Shiva, which angered him. From that anger, Kaal Bhairav manifested from Shiva’s energy. Kaal Bhairav severed Brahma’s fifth head, but it did not detach from his hand. Shiva then said that he would be freed from this sin only after wandering through the three worlds and when the head would fall off. When Bhairav reached Kashi, the head fell, and he was freed from the Dosha. After this, Shiva appointed Kaal Bhairav as the guardian of Kashi. It is believed that worshipping Kaal Bhairav here removes sorrow, evil eye, troubles, and life’s difficulties.
