Our ancient scriptures, like the Garuda Purana, teach us a very important truth: our lives are deeply connected to our ancestors. Just as we inherit their name and property, we also carry their spiritual debts, known as Pitru Rina. When our ancestors are at peace, they shower their family with blessings for health, wealth, and success. But if their souls are restless because proper final rites were not done, their unhappiness can create problems in our lives. To help us honour our ancestors, there is a special time every year called Pitru Paksha. It is believed that during these fifteen days, the souls of our forefathers come down to Earth to be with their families, hoping to receive our love, respect, and offerings.
Within this 15-day sacred period, the tithis of Ekadashi and Mahalaya Amavasya hold immense power. Ekadashi is dearly beloved by Lord Vishnu, the preserver of the universe and the giver of moksha. Performing Shraadh on this day directly pleases Him, and He ensures that your offerings provide the deepest peace to your ancestors. Mahalaya Amavasya is the final and most significant day of Pitru Paksha. It’s a day to provide offerings and love to all your pitrus and help them move towards liberation, even those you may not know by name or have forgotten by mistake. Performing rituals on these days in the holy city of Kashi - Shiv Ji’s home - is believed to grant complete liberation to their souls.

The Pishach Mochan Kund in Kashi is particularly known for its importance in Pitru Dosha Shanti. It is mentioned in the Garuda Purana and Kashi Khand, which describe how performing Pind Daan, Tarpan, and Pitru Dosha Nivaran pujas at this kund fulfills the unfulfilled wishes of ancestors and grants them peace and liberation.The history of the Pishach Mochan Kund is very ancient. It is said that this pilgrimage site existed even before the descent of the Ganges. The kund is associated with a story of a Brahmin who became a Pishach (demon) due to his actions. Under the guidance of Maharishi Valmiki, he worshipped Kapardeshwar Mahadev and bathed in the kund to attain liberation. From then on, the place became known as Pishach Mochan.
