In Hindu mythology, Maa Bagalamukhi holds the eighth position among the ten Mahavidyas. She is worshipped for overcoming adversaries and obstacles. Maa Bagalamukhi embodies the power of the entire universe. She is primarily revered in the Kamakhya Teerth Kshetra in Guwahati, Assam. Every year in June, the Ambubachi Mela (fair) is celebrated at the Kamakhya Teerth Kshetra when Maa Kamakhya is believed to be menstruating. During this time, the doors of the temple are closed for three days, and darshan is also prohibited. After three days the Kamakhya temple reopens and grand puja is conducted for Maa Kamakhya as this day is considered very auspicious because Maa Kamakhya is believed to have renewed her energy and divine power during her menstruation.
