According to mythological stories, Lord Shiva, after his travels across the three worlds, comes here to rest at night. It is said that this is the only temple on Earth where Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati play Chausar (a dice game) every day. After the night Aarti, Chaupads (a form of the game) are laid out, and the Garbhagriha (sanctum) is closed.
