According to the scriptures, after traveling through the three worlds, Lord Shiva comes here to rest at night. It is said that this is the only temple on Earth where Lord Shiva and Parvati play the game of Chaupar (a traditional dice game) every night. After the night Aarti, the Chaupar is set up inside the temple, and the sanctum is closed. Interestingly, even though the temple is closed at night, the Chaupar remains scattered the next day, which adds to the temple’s spiritual mystery.This mystery adds to the religious significance of the temple. It is said that after visiting all other sacred places, a visit to Omkareshwar is especially important. Pilgrims bring water from all the holy tirthas (pilgrimages) and offer it to Omkareshwar, completing their pilgrimage. Without this offering, the journey is considered incomplete.
