According to a popular legend, one day Hanuman Ji saw Mata Sita applying sindoor (vermilion). When he asked her the reason, she replied that she did it for Lord Rama’s long life and happiness. Hearing this, Hanuman Ji, in his deep devotion, covered his entire body with sindoor to please Lord Rama. Since then, the tradition of offering sindoor to Hanuman Ji began.
