Amavasya Shakti Samriddhi 5 Mahavidya Anushthan Maa Kali, Maa Tara, Maa Shodashi, Maa Bhuvaneshwari and Maa Bagalamukhi Shakti Samriddhi Maha Yagya for Protection from Enemies and Achieving Abundance

According to religious beliefs, negative energies are at their peak on the day of Amavasya. This is why the fierce forms of deities are worshipped on this day. The Mahavidyas are also considered the fierce form of Maa Durga, and it is believed that performing puja for them on the day of Amavasya fulfils all the desires of the devotees and blesses them with Shakti and Smriddhi. According to the Devi Bhagavat Purana, the origin of the Mahavidyas arose from a dispute between Bhagwan Shiva and his wife Devi Sati. When Bhagwan Shiva denied Devi Sati permission to attend her father’s yagya, she transformed herself into ten forms and surrounded Bhagwan Shiva from all directions to prevent him from escaping. These ten forms are known as the 10 Mahavidyas. Among these 10 Mahavidyas, five are most revered: Maa Kali, Maa Tara, Maa Shodashi, Maa Bhuvaneshwari, and Maa Bagalamukhi.

Maa Kali, the first Mahavidya, represents time, creation, and destruction. She is the Shakti of Shiva. Maa Durga assumed her form to defeat demons. She removes obstacles, destroys negativity, and initiates new beginnings.

Maa Tara is the principal deity for Tantrics. Maharishi Vashistha was the first to worship Maa Tara. She embodies guidance and compassion, helping devotees navigate tough times while granting wisdom and spiritual liberation.

Maa Shodashi, also known as Lalita, Raj Rajeshwari, and Tripura Sundari, is believed to possess the 16 perfect qualities, hence the name Shodashi. She represents beauty, harmony, and ultimate reality. She is worshipped for her ability to bring balance and fulfilment in life.

Maa Bhuvaneshwari is considered the goddess of the universe. It is said that she controls the entire cosmos. She is the nurturing force of creation and abundance. Maa Bhuvaneshwari blesses her devotees by bestowing abundance, nurturing creation, and expanding opportunities for growth and success.

Maa Bagalamukhi represents control, victory, and stillness. She is known for her power to subdue enemies and grant protection. Maa Bagalamukhi blesses her devotees by removing obstacles, providing mastery over challenges, and ensuring victory in times of conflict.

Therefore, on this Amavasya, to honour these five Mahavidyas, Maa Kali, Maa Tara, Maa Shodashi, Maa Bhuvaneshwari, and Maa Bagalamukhi Shakti Samriddhi Maha Yagya will be organised at the Shaktipeeth Kalighat Temple in Kolkata.

Shaktipeeth Kalighat Temple, Kolkata, West Bengal

Shaktipeeth Kalighat Temple, Kolkata, West Bengal
The Kalighat Temple, located in Kolkata, West Bengal, is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas in Hinduism and is considered a highly significant pilgrimage site. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali, revered as the deity of power, energy, and destruction. According to mythological tales, it is believed that here, the right toe of Goddess Sati fell when Lord Shiva was carrying her burnt body and performing the Tandava dance in grief. For this reason, this place is included among the extremely sacred 51 Shakti Peethas. The temple houses an idol of Goddess Kali in a fierce form, where she is seen standing with her right foot on Lord Shiva's chest, adorned with a garland of soft skulls around his neck, holding some axes and severed heads in her hands, with some skulls tied around her waist. Her tongue is protruding outward with drops of blood dripping from it, made of gold.

The current temple was constructed under the patronage of the Saborno Roychoudhury family & Babu Kaliproshad Dutto, with construction starting in 1798 and completing in 1809. The Kali Ghat Temple holds immense religious and cultural significance. For centuries, it has been a centre of attraction for devotees who come here to fulfil their wishes. Worship of Goddess Kali at Kalighat liberates devotees from fear, negativity, and malevolent energies, bringing peace, prosperity, and success in life. Additionally, the temple is a symbol of Bengal's cultural heritage and hosts grand celebrations during religious festivals, especially Durga Puja and Kali Puja.
