According to the Vedic Panchang, Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated on the day of Chaitra Purnima, and holds immense significance in Sanatan Dharma. It marks the divine birth of Sankat Mochan Lord Hanuman, and is a spiritually potent day for devotion, worship, and seeking his divine grace. This year, Hanuman Jayanti coincides with Saturday, making the occasion even more powerful for those seeking the blessings of Lord Shani.
In our Sanatan tradition, Saturday is dedicated to the worship of Shani Dev, the Lord of justice and karma. It is believed that Shani Dev rewards individuals based on their deeds—both good and bad—which is why he is also called Karmafaldata, the dispenser of karmic fruits. While the gaze of Shani Dev is said to bring forth many trials and hardships, it is also believed that when positioned favorably in one’s horoscope, he brings great success and spiritual growth.
Therefore, worshipping Shani Dev on Saturdays is believed to relieve the effects of Sade Sati and Dhaiya. According to sacred belief, performing a Shani Shanti Mahapuja and Yajna at Shani Shingnapur significantly reduces the malefic effects of Shani, bringing peace and balance into one’s life.
The Shani Shaingnapur Temple: A Living Presence of Lord Shani
The Shani Shingnapur Temple is known as a Jagrut Devasthan, meaning Lord Shani is believed to be ever-present here in the form of a sacred stone idol. According to tradition, worship at this ancient temple is especially effective in bringing relief from the pain of Sade Sati. In Jyotish Shastra (Vedic astrology), Sade Sati is regarded as a challenging period, divided into three phases of two and a half years each. Shani’s Mahadasha spans a long duration of 19 years, during which his influence—positive or negative—is determined by the planetary position and the devotee’s personal karma. It is said that to reduce these negative effects and restore spiritual balance, Shani Shanti Mahapuja and Yajna are extremely powerful remedies.
