In Sanatan Dharma, the festival of Kalashtami holds great significance. It is observed on the Ashtami Tithi (eighth day) of the Krishna Paksha (waning moon phase) every month. The ten Mahavidyas are revered as the fierce manifestations of Goddess Durga, each considered a bestower of divine powers and siddhis (spiritual attainments). According to a legend, during Satya Yuga, a catastrophic flood and storm had brought the Earth to the brink of destruction. Witnessing the widespread devastation, Lord Vishnu approached Lord Shiva for a solution. Shiva revealed that only the Supreme Divine Energy (Adi Shakti) had the power to stop this calamity. In response, Lord Vishnu performed intense penance, which pleased Shri Vidya. She then manifested as Maa Bagalamukhi from the Haridra Lake of Saurashtra region. With her divine powers, she protected all living beings and saved the Earth from destruction. Since then, the worship of Maa Bagalamukhi has been regarded as highly significant, as she is believed to grant victory over enemies, relief from crises, and divine protection.
Similarly, Maa Pratyangira Devi is considered a highly powerful manifestation of Adi Shakti, known for destroying evil forces and protecting her devotees. It is believed that on Kalashtami, the combined worship of Maa Bagalamukhi and Maa Pratyangira grants relief from all kinds of adversities, liberation from enemies, and protection from negative energies.
