It is believed that the severed head of Swarbhanu — the part known as Rahu — fell in the Pauri district of Uttarakhand, where this temple is located. This very place is now known as the Rahu Paithani Temple. According to local belief, people perform special rituals here to seek relief from the afflictions and troubles caused by Rahu. Especially those suffering from Kaal Sarp Dosha, Rahu-Ketu Dosha, or undergoing Rahu Mahadasha come here with devotion to worship Rahu and Lord Shiva.
