According to the Hindu calendar, the month of Shravan is considered one of the most sacred times of the year. It begins after Ashadha Purnima and continues until Shravan Purnima. It is believed that this month is especially dear to Lord Shiva. Goddess Parvati performed intense penance during this month to receive Lord Shiva as her husband. Also, during the churning of the cosmic ocean (Samudra Manthan), Lord Shiva consumed the poison that emerged, protecting the universe. That is why devotees observe fasts, perform Rudrabhishek and special pujas during this time to please Lord Shiva. Mondays in Shravan are considered especially auspicious as per the scriptures.
The Importance of Worshipping Lord Shiva for Chandra Dosha 🙏
According to a popular legend, the Moon (Chandra) married King Daksha's 27 daughters but loved Rohini the most. The other wives were upset and complained to their father. When Chandra did not change even after King Daksha's advice, Daksha cursed him with a wasting disease. As a result, Chandra began to lose his brilliance, and the Earth began to suffer. On the advice of Narada Muni, Chandra worshipped Lord Shiva, who, pleased with his devotion, freed him from the curse and restored his vitality. Since then, Shiva is also known as “Chandrashekhara.”
According to the scriptures, Monday is a special day for the worship of both Lord Shiva and Chandra. It is believed that worshipping them together on this day helps reduce mental suffering. In Vedic astrology, the Moon is considered the significator of the mind. Its malefic placement can cause disturbed thinking, stress, depression, and even substance abuse.
