The ancient Maa Vindhyavasini Devi Temple located on the Vindhya mountain in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, is a major center of Shakti worship and one of the 51 Shaktipeeths of India. It is believed that the awakened form of Maa Vindhyavasini is present here. According to tradition, the left toe of Sati fell at this place, making this place extremely sacred. It is described in the Shiva Purana and other scriptures that Adi Shakti (The Primordial Goddess) is fully present only in Vindhyachal. Unlike many Shaktipeeths, where symbolic forms are worshipped, devotees here get the sight (darshan) of the full idol of the Goddess.
