Mahakumbh Ekadashi Ksheer Sagar Special 11,000 Sheshnaag Gayatri Mantra, Shri Vasudev Stotram and Purush Sukta Havan for Protection from Adversities and Misfortunes

In Hindu tradition, the Mahakumbh Mela is organized once every 12 years in Prayagraj and is considered the largest and most auspicious spiritual event. This grand festival takes place at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the invisible Saraswati rivers, a location regarded as a powerful center of religious and spiritual energy. The significance of the Mahakumbh is linked to the churning of the ocean (Samudra Manthan), during which the gods and demons worked together to obtain the nectar of immortality (Amrit). According to a mythological story, when the prosperity of the three worlds disappeared due to a curse by the great sage Durvasa, Goddess Lakshmi, along with her eight forms, submerged into the depths of the Ksheer Sagar (Ocean of Milk). To restore this prosperity, Lord Vishnu persuaded the gods and demons to churn the ocean. It is believed that Lord Vishnu, along with his consort Goddess Lakshmi and his eternal devotee Sheshnaag, resides in the Ksheer Sagar. This time, during the Mahakumbh, a rare conjunction falls on Magha Shukla Ekadashi, also known as Jaya Ekadashi, which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is believed that rituals performed on this auspicious day are highly fruitful. Devotees engage in various spiritual practices on this day, including the recitation of Shri Vasudev Stotram and Purush Sukta Havan. Additionally, it is believed that performing the chanting of 11,000 Sheshnaag Gayatri Mantras, dedicated to Sheshnaag, during this special conjunction makes the rituals even more powerful. This puja is said to grant devotees the blessings of Lord Vishnu and Sheshnaag, protecting them from negativity and misfortune.

Several stories in the Puranas highlight the bond between Lord Vishnu and Sheshnaag. According to one tale, during the Dvapara Yuga, when Lord Krishna incarnated, Sheshnaag took the form of Balarama. When Vasudeva was carrying Lord Krishna to Nanda's house, Sheshnaag served as a protective umbrella and shielded Lord Krishna from the rain. Sheshnaag is considered the most powerful and temperamental among the serpents, and his fierce nature was so intense that even his mother feared him. This temperament was also seen in his incarnation as Balarama. It is believed that chanting the Sheshnaag Gayatri Mantra dispels negativity and fosters the flow of positive energy. Beginning with the primal sound "Om," the Gayatri Mantra is regarded as highly powerful, helping devotees safeguard themselves from any form of negativity. When this ritual is performed on Jaya Ekadashi during the Mahakumbh, it becomes even more fruitful for devotees. Hence, during the Mahakumbh in the holy city of Prayagraj, 11,000 Sheshnaag Gayatri Mantra, Shri Vasudev Stotram and Purush Sukta Havan will be organized at the sacred Triveni Sangam. Participate in this puja through the Sri Mandir and receive the blessings of protection from negativity and misfortune.

According to Hindu scriptures, after the Devasura Sangram, during the Samudra Manthan, Lord Dhanvantari emerged holding a pot of nectar (amrit). Both the gods and demons desired immortality through the nectar and pursued it fervently. In the process, some amrit spilled from the pot and fell at four sacred places on Earth: Prayagraj, Ujjain, Haridwar, and Nashik. Every 12 years, the grand Kumbh Mela is held at these locations. Performing puja at these four Kumbh Kshetras during the Mahakumbh festival is believed to bless devotees with prosperity and spiritual growth. Among these four Kumbh Kshetras, Prayagraj holds special significance as the site of the Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the invisible Saraswati rivers. Bathing at this sacred confluence is said to absolve sins and grant moksha, or liberation from the cycle of birth and death.

This spiritual importance is why millions of devotees gather at Prayagraj every 12 years for the Kumbh Mela, seeking salvation through a holy dip. According to legend, Lord Brahma performed a yagya at Prayagraj at the time of creation. This sacred act established the site as a center for religion, penance, and sadhana, earning it the title of "Tirthraj," or the king of pilgrimages. Worshipping Maa Lakshmi, who emerged during the Samudra Manthan, and Lord Vishnu, who participated in it, is considered highly auspicious during the Mahakumbh. Performing their puja at the sacred Triveni Sangam is believed to bring immense wealth and prosperity. Worshipping them on the day of Ekadashi, in particular, is said to amplify these blessings.
