Mahalaya Amavasya Gaya Shanti Special Pitru Dosh Shanti Mahapuja for Peace of Departed Souls and Protection from Negative Energies
In Hindu tradition, Mahalaya Amavasya marks the last day of Pitru Paksha, a sacred period dedicated to praying for the peace and liberation (moksha) of our ancestors' souls. On this day, performing tarpan (water offerings), shradh (rituals for ancestors), and charity is considered highly rewarding, According to astrology, this is a rare coincidence, taking place after many years, when both the beginning and the end of Pitru Paksha are occurring during eclipses.. It is believed that during Pitru Paksha, the souls of ancestors come to Earth, bless their families when satisfied, and then depart peacefully. Mahalaya also connects to the beginning of Devi Paksha, as the festival of Navratri starts the next day.

🛕 Garuda Purana Story Related to Gaya:
Lord Brahma told Vyasji that the demon Gaya caused immense suffering to the gods and humans through his severe penance. Distressed, the gods went to Lord Vishnu, who promised to end Gaya’s life. While collecting a lotus from the Ksheer Sagar for Shiva’s worship, Gaya was mesmerized by Vishnumaya and fell asleep in Kikat Desh. At that moment, Lord Vishnu killed Gaya with his mace, bringing relief to both gods and humans. Lord Vishnu declared that Gaya’s body would now be revered as a sacred pilgrimage site. It is believed that performing Yajna, Shraddh, and Pind Daan here grants devotees the attainment of Swarg and Brahmlok.
