Devshayani Ekadashi is considered a day that marks a cosmic shift. On this day, Lord Vishnu enters into Yog Nidra (divine slumber) and disconnects from worldly duties for four months, a period known as Chaturmas. This time is seen as ideal for introspection, purification of karma, and spiritual awareness. According to the Padma Purana, during Chaturmas when Lord Vishnu remains in Yog Nidra, Lord Shiva takes responsibility for protecting the world. It is believed that during this period, one should seek the shelter of Lord Shiva to carry out all important actions. Worshipping both Hari (Vishnu) and Har (Shiva) together on Devshayani Ekadashi is considered highly auspicious. Following this belief, Sri Mandir is organizing the Hari-Hara Sangam Raksha Kavach Puja and 1008 Akhand Diya Seva (Night Vigil) at Kamleshwar Mahadev Temple on this sacred occasion.
There is a legendary story associated with Kamleshwar Mahadev Temple involving the offering of lotus flowers to Lord Shiva. As per the Shiv Mahimna Stotra, when a great battle broke out between the gods and demons and the gods were losing, they turned to Lord Vishnu for help. Vishnu advised them to first worship Lord Shiva. He then accompanied the gods to the place now known as Kamleshwar Mahadev Temple and began offering lotus flowers to Shiva. To test Vishnu's devotion, Lord Shiva used his divine powers to hide one of the lotuses. In response, Lord Vishnu offered one of his eyes in place of the missing lotus. Impressed by this gesture, Lord Shiva granted him the Sudarshan Chakra. This divine weapon became a symbol of their eternal alliance. The temple is therefore seen as a symbol of unity between Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu, a place where duality ends and divine protection becomes active. On Devshayani Ekadashi, this legend holds even deeper meaning, as it is the day when Lord Vishnu entrusts the world’s care to Lord Shiva, who, in the form of Kamleshwar, becomes an unbreakable shield for devotees.
As part of this special puja, during the sacred period of Chaturmas, Sri Mandir will invoke the combined energies of Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva through the Hari-Har Sangam Raksha Kavach Puja, using powerful Vedic mantras. This will be followed by the Rudrabhishek Anushthan, in which devotees will worship the sacred union of Shiva and Vishnu. The ceremony will also include the Sudarshan Deep Daan, where the divine energy of Lord Vishnu’s Sudarshan Chakra will be invoked through sacred lamps—symbolizing protection, strength, and purification. Finally, devotees will offer personal prayers and sankalps, seeking spiritual and energetic protection throughout the Chaturmas period.
