The Radha Damodar Temple located in Vrindavan is one of the oldest temples in the town and is considered one of the seven most important temples of Vrindavan. The most unique aspect of the Radha Damodar altar is the ‘Govardhan Shila,’ which Lord Krishna gave to Sanatan Goswami.
Sanatan Goswami’s elder brother, Shri Rupa Goswami, used to perform Govardhan Parikrama daily without fail. Pleased by his devotion, Lord Krishna appeared before him in the form of a child and instructed him to stop the parikrama. Lord Krishna then took a Giriraj Shila, stood upon it, and began playing His flute. As the sweet melody flowed, the stone began to melt. Lord Krishna told Sanatan Goswami that from that day onward, worshipping and circumambulating this Shila would be equivalent to performing the full Govardhan or Giriraj Parikrama.
Even today, it is believed that four circumambulations of the Radha Damodar Temple are equal to one Govardhan Parikrama. The Radha Damodar Temple is one of the most visited temples in Vrindavan, attracting devotees and tourists from around the world due to its beauty, devotion, and sacred services.
