Vaikunta Ekadashi is celebrated as the most sacred of all Ekadashis because the Padma Purana describes this day as the North door of Vaikunta, the divine abode of Lord Vishnu, which is opened for all beings, including Gods. The scriptures say that on this day, the Lord himself gives his darshana at the entrance of Vaikunta and blesses every devotee who remembers him with devotion. The Vishnu Dharma Shastra states that observing Vaikunta Ekadashi even once destroys the weight of sins gathered over many births and brings the merit of performing a thousand Ashwamedha Yagnas.
According to the Sri Venkatachala Mahatyam, this Ekadashi is especially powerful at the temples of Lord Venkateshwara because he is the form of Vishnu who has taken the responsibility of protecting the world in Kali Yuga. The greatness of this day lies in the belief that the Lord removes the gates of karma and opens the path of Moksha. Fasting, chanting the divine names, and participating in his seva on this day are said to bring peace, prosperity, spiritual upliftment, and the grace that frees a person from difficulties. This is why the scriptures declare that there is no Ekadashi greater than Vaikunta Ekadashi.
The most well-known Sri Venkateswara Suprabhatam is a Sanskrit hymn composed in the 15th century by Prativadibhayankara Sri Anantacharya to awaken the deity Lord Venkateswara. The genre traces its origin to a single verse in the Balakanda of the Valmiki Ramayana. The full composition consists of four parts, totalling 70 stanzas. The Suprabhatam gained immense global popularity through the iconic recording by the legendary Carnatic vocalist M.S. Subbulakshmi in 1958.
