During the Samudra Manthan, Swarbhanu secretly sat among the gods and drank the nectar of immortality. Realising the deception, Lord Vishnu severed his head with the Sudarshan Chakra. But since he had already tasted the nectar, he became immortal, the head became Rahu, and the lower body became Ketu. It is believed that Rahu’s severed head fell at Pauri, where this temple later came to be established. Devotees visit this sacred place to seek relief from doshas related to Rahu, such as Kaal Sarpa Dosha, Rahu–Ketu Dosha, and Rahu Mahadasha.

It is believed that people go to this temple of Rahu to remove various Doshas caused by Rahu.
