It is believed that the first sound of "Omkar" was spoken by Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe. Even the chanting of the Vedas begins with "Om." According to mythological stories, after traveling through the three worlds, Lord Shiva comes here at night to rest. People say this is the only temple on Earth where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati play chaupar (a game of dice) every night. After the night aarti, a chaupar board is placed in front of the Shivling, and then the sanctum is closed. What’s surprising is that no one is allowed to enter the temple at night, not even a bird can enter. Still, every morning, the chaupar board is found disturbed. This adds to the temple’s mystery and spiritual power.
