56 Bhog: As per scriptures, when young Krishna used to spend the day herding cows, Mother Yashoda would serve him 8 meals a day. But during the Govardhan Leela, when Krishna held up Mount Govardhan for 7 days to protect the villagers from Indra’s torrential rain, he could not eat his daily meals. After the rains stopped, it is believed that Yashoda and the villagers prepared all the missed meals at once - 8 meals × 7 days = 56 dishes, as an offering of love and gratitude.
