Devi Ganga agreed to fulfill the sage's request on the condition that she would only come when Lord Mahadev resided in that place. Accepting Ganga's wish, Lord Shiva manifested himself as the Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga. Eventually, the Ganga River flowed there in the form of the Godavari River.
