🪔 Shraadh Paksha is considered the most important period for offering Tarpan to ancestors and receiving their blessings. It is believed that during these days, the doors of Pitru Loka remain open, and through Tarpan, Pind Daan, and Havan, the souls of ancestors receive true direction and peace. Performing Tripindi Shraadh, Pind Daan, and Til Tarpan on Shraadh is believed to reduce the effects of Pitru Dosha, remove obstacles in life, and invite the grace of forefathers upon the family. This day is seen as a golden opportunity to express gratitude to ancestors, pray for their peace, and bring happiness, prosperity, and harmony into the family.
🕉️ In this ritual, Tripindi Shraadh and Pind Daan are special Vedic rites performed for the peace and liberation of the souls of ancestors. In Tripindi Shraadh, three Pinds made of sesame seeds, rice, and kusa grass are offered for three generations: father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. It is believed that this satisfies the ancestors’ souls and bestows their withheld blessings on the family. In Pind Daan, Pinds made of rice, sesame, flowers, and water are offered in a sacred river or pilgrimage site. This ritual is considered highly effective for Pitru Dosha Nivaran and is believed to lead to peace, prosperity, and well-being in life.
🌿 Dharmaranya Vedhi in Gaya, Sri Mandir will offer Tarpan with kusa, sesame, water, and mantras. 🛕 Garuda Purana Story Related to Gaya:
Lord Brahma told Vyasji that the demon Gaya caused immense suffering to the gods and humans through his severe penance. Distressed, the gods went to Lord Vishnu, who promised to end Gaya’s life. While collecting a lotus from the Ksheer Sagar for Shiva’s worship, Gaya was mesmerized by Vishnumaya and fell asleep in Kikat Desh. At that moment, Lord Vishnu killed Gaya with his mace, bringing relief to both gods and humans. Lord Vishnu declared that Gaya’s body would now be revered as a sacred pilgrimage site. It is believed that performing Yajna, Shraddh, and Pind Daan here grants devotees the attainment of Swarg and Brahmlok.

The importance of Gaya is evident from the fact that on the banks of the Falgu River, Shraadh rituals and Pind Daan were performed for the peace and liberation of King Dasharatha’s soul. The Vayu Purana, Garuda Purana, and Vishnu Purana also describe the city of Gaya.
The practice of Tarpan and Pind Daan, carried on since ancient times, continues even today at the sacred Pind Vedis around Gaya. According to the Skanda Purana, during the Mahabharata war, Yudhishthira performed Pind Daan at the Dharmaranya Pind Vedhi for the peace and repentance of the souls of those killed in battle. Among the five sacred Shraadh Vedis, Dharmaranya Vedhi is highly revered.
