Yogini Ekadashi, observed on the Krishna Paksha of the Ashadha month, is especially known for the pacification of Pitru Dosh, freedom from diseases, and removal of negative obstacles in life. On this day, the worship of Lord Vishnu and the ritualistic abhishek with the sacred Ganga water are considered highly meritorious.
According to legend, Hemamali, a flower garland maker in the court of Kubera in heaven, was assigned the task of offering flowers to Lord Shiva. One day, lost in the thoughts of his wife, he failed to deliver the flowers. Angered by this, Kubera cursed him, due to which he fell to earth and was afflicted with leprosy. He later met Sage Markandeya, who advised him to observe the Yogini Ekadashi fast. Hemamali observed the fast with great devotion and was freed from the disease and regained his divine form. This story highlights the potency of this Ekadashi in removing sins, diseases, and in attaining spiritual merit.

On the other hand, Gangotri Dham is located on the sacred land of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. Gangotri is the origin place of the Ganga River, and it is believed that worshipping Maa Ganga at this place fulfils all the devotees' wishes. According to ancient legends, Bhagirath performed penance here to attain salvation for his ancestors. After his tireless efforts, Maa Ganga descended to earth. However, her speed was so intense that if she would have fallen directly on earth, the earth would have been destroyed. A situation of disaster would have been created and she would have gone to the netherworld. On the tireless prayers of the devotees, Lord Shiva gathered Ganga in his Jata (locks) and after that Maa Ganga reached the earth via Kailash and saved the ancestors of Bhagiratha. It is believed that the stone on which King Bhagirath meditated still exists here and is known as Bhagirath Shila. It is believed that anyone who performs puja at the Ganga Ghat in Gangotri Dham on the auspicious day of Ekadashi receives the blessings of Maa Ganga.
