According to Hindu scriptures, Lord Chandra favoured Rohini among his twenty-seven wives, angering Daksha Prajapati. Daksha cursed Chandra with tuberculosis due to his overwhelming affection for Rohini. Seeking refuge in Lord Vishnu, Chandra was advised to worship Lord Shiva in Prayag.
