🤔 Why is Monday Purnima so rare?
On 29 June 2026, a rare Maha Yoga of Monday and Purnima is forming, an occurrence seen only once in several years. Monday is the day of the Moon and is beloved to Lord Shiva. “Som” itself means the Moon, and “Someshwar” means the Lord of the Moon. Rudrabhishek on Monday at this temple is considered the most scripturally auspicious form of worship.
Additionally, Purnima is the day of the Moon’s complete 16 phases (kalas). These are the same 16 phases that Someshwar Mahadev is believed to have bestowed upon Chandra Dev.
This rare Maha Yoga also includes Pradosh Kaal, the divine twilight period of about three hours around sunset, when, according to the Shiva Purana, Lord Shiva, along with Goddess Parvati, is believed to be in a blissful dancing form at Mount Kailash.
