🦚On Sharad Purnima, the Moon’s sixteen Kalas are believed to represent the sixteen qualities of creation. Lord Krishna is the Supreme Consciousness in whom all sixteen Kalas exist together in their complete and eternal form. Sharad Purnima is the night when both the Moon in the sky and Lord Krishna in his divine Leela are believed to attain the fullness of their sixteen Kalas. This divine union is celebrated as the Maha Raas.
🌕 It is believed that, apart from the Moon, Lord Krishna is the only deity regarded as complete in all sixteen Kalas. He also belonged to the Chandravansh (Lunar Dynasty). Sharad Purnima is also the sacred night when the long penance of the Gopis of Vrindavan bore fruit, as Lord Krishna, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, performed the Maha Raas with them, fulfilling their devotion and granting them liberation from the cycle of life.
🧈 Makhan-Mishri: The Bhog Krishna Chose for Himself
The Srimad Bhagavatam narrates the Makhan Chor Lila in loving detail - the child Krishna slipping away from Yashoda, breaking into the homes of the Gopis, reaching into pots of freshly churned butter with His own hands.
He chose Makhan, soft, pure, freshly churned, and Mishri, the crystal sweetness that melts without resistance. The Vallabha Sampradaya's Seva Rahasya prescribes Makhan-Mishri as the most intimate offering to Thakur Ji. Makhan represents purity and softness; Mishri represents sweetness without artifice. Together they are the offering that most directly mirrors the nature of the devotion Krishna responds to: simple, pure, and unconditional.
