In Vedic astrology, Rahu is the mysterious shadow planet with neither a physical body nor ownership of any zodiac sign. Yet, its planetary period is believed to bring significant upheavals in one's life. According to the Puranic legend, during Samudra Manthan, an Asura named Swarbhanu disguised himself as a Deva and consumed the divine nectar. The Sun and Moon recognised him, and Lord Vishnu severed his head with the Sudarshan Chakra. His immortal head became Rahu, who is himself represented as a serpent's head. This is why Nagula Chavithi, the most significant festival dedicated to the Nag Devtas, is also considered an especially powerful day for worshipping Rahu.
