The Avantika Devi Temple reminds devotees of the divine wedding of Lord Krishna and Rukmini. Even today, hundreds of years old Khinni, Kadam, and Indra Jau trees stand here. It is believed that flowers and fruits from these very trees were used to welcome Lord Krishna’s wedding procession. Maa Avantika Devi Temple is located on the banks of the Ganga River. This ancient temple is believed to be around six and a half thousand years old and is associated with the time of the Mahabharata. It is said that Rukmini worshipped here, and from this very place Lord Krishna took Rukmini with Him and married her. About forty years ago, the temple was surrounded by dense forests and thick bushes. During Navratri, it is said that even a tiger used to come at midnight to have darshan of the Goddess. According to beliefs, Rukmini prayed here with the wish of accepting Shri Krishna as her husband. Maa Avantika Devi granted her wish, and since then it is believed that anyone who prays here with a true heart gets their desires fulfilled.

History of Maa Avantika Devi Temple, Bulandshahr

This temple of Maa Avantika Devi is extremely sacred and ancient. It is believed that the Goddess manifested herself here. The temple houses two idols—one of Maa Bhagwati Jagadamba and the other of Sati Mata. Devotees worship both as forms of Avantika Devi. During the Mahabharata period, this place was known as Ahaar. It is believed that Rukmini used to visit this temple daily to worship on the banks of the Ganga. This temple is the site where Lord Krishna and Rukmini met. Rukmini’s brother, Rukmi, had planned her marriage to Shishupal, but Rukmini wished to marry Krishna. So she prayed to Maa Ambika for help. On the day of the wedding, Rukmini came to this temple to offer prayers. At that very moment, Lord Krishna arrived, took her with Him, and married her. Even today, women visit this temple to pray for the long life, happiness, and prosperity of their husbands and children. This temple is a strong symbol of faith and devotion.
