Khaki Baba Temple Ballia

Khaki Baba Temple is a prominent religious site located in Khanwar village of Ballia district, Uttar Pradesh. This holy land is associated with a great saint known as “Khaki Baba”, whose devotion and miraculous deeds still inspire people. It is said that even British officers were astonished by his spiritual powers.

Khaki Baba was born in Mairitar village of Ballia district. One day, while returning from Sahatwar to Baghaon, he saw a farmer ploughing his field. Suddenly, an idol of Lord Hanuman emerged from the soil and blood began to flow from it. Witnessing this divine incident, Khaki Baba was deeply moved and immediately renounced worldly life, accepting the path of sainthood.

Many renowned disciples were associated with Khaki Baba. Among them, Shrimannarayana Das Bhakti Mali is well known, who organizes the grand Shri Ram Vivah Mahotsav in Buxar, Bihar. Even today, several famous spiritual speakers in India belong to his disciple tradition.

One of the most famous miracles occurred during the British era. When British officers attempted to capture him, Baba crossed a flooded river in August simply by walking on the water wearing wooden sandals. This miraculous scene was captured by a German photographer and remains a part of history.

The Samadhi of Khaki Baba is located in Khanwar village, Ballia. The Uttar Pradesh government has developed this site as a tourist destination and allocated ₹40 lakh for its renovation. The peaceful surroundings, a serene pond, lush greenery, and natural beauty attract both devotees and tourists throughout the year.

Every year, a grand event is organized on Baba’s death anniversary. The program includes bhajans, kirtan, havan, and prasad distribution. Recently, his 58th death anniversary was celebrated with great devotion.

The temple is known not only for its spiritual importance but also for its simple yet beautiful architecture.

At the center of the temple premises lies the Samadhi of Khaki Baba, covered by a circular dome painted in blue and yellow, making it visually distinctive.

The entrance of the temple is modest, with a few steps leading to the main building, creating a calm and devotional atmosphere.

A beautiful pond is located inside the temple complex, with a charming wooden bridge leading to a pavilion situated in the middle of the pond—ideal for meditation and relaxation.

The entire area is surrounded by lush green trees, adding to the natural beauty and serenity of the temple.

Khaki Baba Temple remains open every day from 8 PM to 9 PM.

Prasad is mainly distributed during special religious events and fairs. Devotees are served khichdi, halwa, puri, vegetables, and other simple yet delicious dishes as part of the bhandara. During the Bhadrapad Kanwar Yatra, more than 10,000 devotees receive prasad. This event is organized by the local Kanwariya Association along with worship rituals of Lord Shiva.

From Ballia, one can hire a taxi, auto, or take a local bus to reach the temple.

Ballia Railway Station is well connected to major cities across Uttar Pradesh and India.

By Bus Regular bus services are available from Ballia Bus Station to Khanwar.

Travel time ranges from 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on the route and vehicle.

By Air The nearest airport is Gorakhpur Airport, located about 200 km from Khanwar. You can take a taxi or bus from the airport to reach the temple.

Alternatively, Varanasi Airport is another option, situated around 150 km from Khanwar.
