Navratri Special Shaktipeeth Chandi Havan Special Kali Chandi Havan and Durga Ashtottara Shatanamavali Path

According to the Hindu Vedic calendar, the Shukla Paksha Pratipada Tithi of the month of Ashwin marks the beginning of Shardiya Navratri every year. During Shardiya Navratri, the nine different forms of Goddess Durga are worshipped. According to legends, Goddess Durga fought a fierce battle with the evil demon Mahishasura for nine days and defeated him on the tenth day. This is why devotees worship the nine forms of Goddess Durga during this period to seek her blessings. One of the many forms of the goddess is Maa Kali, who is referred to as the goddess of death, time, and transformation. She is considered the fierce and terrifying form of Adishakti Maa Durga, born to destroy demons. During Navratri, devotees invoke her to seek victory over enemies and blessings for protection against negative energies and evil forces. There are several rituals for invoking her, among which the Kali Chandi Havan is considered highly effective. It is believed that performing this Havan helps one get rid of life’s problems. Through this Havan, the goddess bestows strength, courage, and skill upon her devotees.

For the worship of Goddess Durga, devotees recite the Shri Ashtottara Shatanamavali Stotra, which is part of the auspicious verses in the Durga Saptashati. Lord Shiva himself explained its significance, stating that those who recite these names or even just hear them please Goddess Durga, and she blesses them with well-being. Such individuals attain liberation (moksha). This is why, on this auspicious occasion of Navratri, Kali Chandi Havan and Durga Ashtottara Shatanamavali Path will be organised at the Kalighat Temple in West Bengal. According to ancient texts, it is believed that the toe of Goddess Sati’s right foot fell at this sacred place when Lord Shiva was performing the Tandava while carrying her corpse. This is why Kalighat Temple is one of the 51 highly revered Shaktipeeths. Worship at this Tantra Peeth is believed to bestow blessings from all ten Mahavidyas. Participate in this sacred ritual through Sri Mandir and seek the goddess’s blessings for victory over enemies, protection from evil influences, and negative energies.

Shaktipeeth Kalighat Temple, Kolkata, West Bengal
The Kali Ghat Temple, located in Kolkata, West Bengal, is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas in Hinduism and is considered a highly significant pilgrimage site. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali, revered as the deity of power, energy, and destruction. According to mythological tales, it is believed that here, the right toe of Goddess Sati fell when Lord Shiva was carrying her burnt body and performing the Tandava dance in grief. For this reason, this place is included among the extremely sacred 51 Shakti Peethas. The temple houses an idol of Goddess Kali in a fierce form, where she is seen standing with her right foot on Lord Shiva's chest, adorned with a garland of soft skulls around his neck, holding some axes and severed heads in her hands, with some skulls tied around her waist. Her tongue is protruding outward with drops of blood dripping from it, made of gold.

The current temple was constructed under the patronage of the Saborno Roychoudhury family & Babu Kaliproshad Dutto, with construction starting in 1798 and completing in 1809. The Kali Ghat Temple holds immense religious and cultural significance. For centuries, it has been a centre of attraction for devotees who come here to fulfil their wishes. Worship of Goddess Kali at Kali Ghat liberates devotees from fear, negativity, and malevolent energies, bringing peace, prosperity, and success in life. Additionally, the temple is a symbol of Bengal's cultural heritage and hosts grand celebrations during religious festivals, especially Durga Puja and Kali Puja.
